The ocean was huge. Casper made the boat feel like home.

Atlantic miles are not romantic every hour. They are work, weather, doubt, motion, and fatigue. Then Casper would look up from the deck and remind me there was still something soft and loyal in the middle of all that water.

He did not know we were crossing an ocean. He knew we were together.

That was enough. The sailing story is really a loyalty story: Casper learning the rhythm of the boat, the sound of lines, the heat of the deck, the strange peace of night watches, and the trust of staying close.
